Great start to the Senior season
An icy reception for the players and umpires
It was a chilly start to season, with ice on the covers and surrounds, but things warmed up quickly for the Premiers in their first two day match against Marist-Harewood. Put in to bat, we scored 299/3 in our first innings sixty overs allocation (well done to our grounds staff!). Carl Huyser hit 5 sixes in a quick fire 52 off an attack that included Matt Henry. Tom Latham (78) and new skipper Sam Noster (80*) were other major contributors. We then quickly dismissed the opposition for 91. Following on, they were 11/0 at stumps.
In other morning grade matches, the 2As are 141/3 chasing 195 for a first innings lead over Marist-Harewood. The 2Bs are in an equally tight tussle with Hornby.
It was a great afternoon for our other teams,w ith 4 out of 5 winning. The Presidents Foxes, Brawlers, Cannons and Mariners were all victorious. Only our new T20 team, the Dubai Diamond Traders, missed out in their first time up.

Seven On The Honours Board
A magnificent seven this week.
A highlight was birthday boy Matt Farrant’s 5/17 for the Premiers, easily a career best.
Also of note was Jeff Roy hitting 101 for the Presidents Foxes; it’s not every season we get a first day hundred.

Did you know?
….that Gary Bartlett took a career best 6/38 in test against India in 1968. In the same match, won by New Zealand, BWU’s current Patron Graham Dowling, then the New Zealand captain, scored 239.
Have a great cricketing weekend!
