This Saturday Morning Junior Cricket is back in action – and not a moment too soon to give the kids a chance to play some cricket like some of their BlackCaps hero’s. It is great to have the Australian team touring NZ, and it’s even better to give them a hiding in the first ODI at Eden Park.
Friday Night Junior Cricket starts back on the 12th of February – so those inolved will need to wait another week!

Central Stags win Ford Trophy for 50 Over cricket
;left to right – George Worker, Tom Bruce and William Young with the Ford Trophy
In last weekends final between Canterbury and Central Stags, Canterbury was beaten by the record equaling total of 405/6 at Pukekura Park. It was treat to recieve this photo on one our teams Facebook Page that with the title “BWC for life” with the three former BWCUCC players who featured in the match – George Worker’s 159 off 151 balls who opened the batting and was out in the 47th over, Tom Bruce who broke the record for the fastest 50 in NZ domestic one day history on his way to 71 off just 23 balls, and Will Young who captained the side and scored 51 off 32 balls. Congratulation to these guys – and thanks for thinking of us back at BWCUCC. You can read more about that match here
Senior Cricket
The Premier Men’s were not able to get any play of their first day encounter against Riccarton due to the pitch being unplayable – so it will be interesting to see what tactics come out on the second day at Upper Riccarton Domain.
2a’s continue against Riccarton at Burnside Park, joined with Presidents, Mariners and the Dubai Diamond Traders whose last over win last weekend was a thriller.
The only update to the Honours board was from H.Sharma who opened the batting for the Strikers in their T20 match and scored an unbeaten 50.
A reminder to all players, supporters and administrators that there will be no club or youth cricket on February 20 due to this being the first day of the Black Caps v Australia test match at Hagley Oval.
Premier Men, Senior A, 2A and 2B will complete a double header on 13/14 February in lieu of not playing on the 20th.
Special President’s Grade representative match on Monday 8th of February
The Presidents Grade has a North v South representative grade whereby each team nominates 2 players for selection. This is the second year of this fixture and this year it will he held at Burnside Park, starting at 12pm.
There is a lot of pride at stake in these fixtures, and I am told the Bar will be open if you wish to pop down and support the North Team featuring the Martin Conway, Dave Robertson, Gareth Gibson and Peter McInnes from BWCUCC – so worth a look.
Final Note
The club’s committee meeting was moved to Tuesday the 9th of February, so plenty of time to email in anything for the committee.
