Greetings to all BWCUCC players, supporters and friends of the club.
Another rain disrupted week forced most of the lower grades to be cancelled last weekend with only the Premiers and 2As getting games in. The Premier’s lower order managed to hold out for a tough draw, while the 2As had their first win. Read all about it more in this week’s Newsletter.

Senior cricket round up: Premiers hold out for a draw, 2As win
Riccarton opener Liam Bartholomeusz achieved the first century of the summer, clubbing 120 not out against Burnside West Christchurch University. It wasn’t quite enough to earn Riccarton an outright, with Burnside finishing nine wickets down and holding on for a draw. Cam Hawkins hit a useful 45 for Burnside, but no-one was able to kick on and stick around long enough in support in the chase of 265, and after a tense final half hour, Burnside finished on 142/9 at stumps.

The 2As took on Marist Harewood, and after bowling Marist out cheaply for 120, came home with a comfortable 4 wicket win finishing on 122/6. Will O’Brien starred with the ball taking 4/26, and in the run chase Josh Jones stamped his mark on the match, finishing unbeaten on 66*.
All other senior cricket was cancelled due to wet grounds.
Junior cricket update

BWC Premiers captain and opening batsman Cam Hawkins was selected for a Canterbury XI to take on an Otago XI at MainPower Oval this week. Read the article on Cam’s selection in the Christchurch Press (7th October) here.
Givealittle campaign for Arun Kumar – Help Raam Kumar Pursue His Dream
We are very fortunate to have the services of Arun Kumar as scorer and statistician for the BWCUCC Premiers. Arun travels with the Premiers to every fixture and scores the matches live in CricHQ. Scoring is a tiring and thankless task, but now is your opportunity to payback some of Arun’s loyalty to the club.
Arun’s younger brother Raam has been accepted into the University of Canterbury Faculty of Engineering, to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering. As an overseas student, Raam’s cost of tuition is estimated at $40,000 NZD.
To help make Raam’s dream of studying in Christchurch a reality, Arun has set up a givealittle campaign with a goal of raising $20,000 by November.
We would like to encourage all club members, supported and friends of the club to contribute to this worthy cause to help Arun bring his brother to New Zealand. Even if you can’t donate, we encourage you to share this campaign with friends and colleagues.

Tinus Huyser (#555) receives his cap

Martinus (Tinus) Huyser is the 555th player in the history of the club as incorporated in 1905, to be awarded a Premier cap for his 15th 2-day match appearance. Tinus’ cap presentation took place before play on Saturday outside the Burnside Pavilion, and was awarded by Premier coach and former Premier grade player Craig Kerr (#404).
