2016/2017 Season – Newsletter #4

Greetings to all BWCUCC players, supporters and friends of the club.

Play got underway for a number of the Junior club and most afternoon grades on Saturday , but the T20 teams  are still eagerly awaiting their chance to get stuck in.  Read all about how the games went and more in this week’s newsletter…

Senior cricket round up:

The mercurial Brett Thomson gets the ball ‘above the eyes’ on his way to a 5-wicket bag for the 2As against Riccarton at Burnside Oval (allegedly).

Burnside Premiers took on Lancaster Park  in the first day of a two-day match at Garrick Park. Burnside batted first and scored 192/9 in their 60 overs, with skipper Cam Hawkins batting for 49 overs to finish unbeaten on 81*. In reply, LPW have looked solid, compiling 197/3 in 47 overs. AJ How has picked up 2 wickets so far, and our men will be looking to wrestle back control on day two.

  • BWU1 (97/9) lost to OBC2 (98/5)
  • BWU2 (88/3, M. Balapuwaduge 40*) beat East Shirley Takahe (86/9)
  • BWU3 (32/6 & 42/5) beat Merivale Papanui 3 (32/6 & 41/6)
  • BWU4 lost to OBC15
  • BWU5 (96/5) lost to OBC14 (176/2)
  • BWU7 beat Southern Districts 4
  • BWU9 (204/8) beat Tai Tapu Gold (61/9)
  • BWU10 (114/6) lost to Sydenham Turner J Stars (130/3)

Friday night cricket starts this Friday:

Junior Friday night cricket starts this Friday (21st October). Families should be ready to go at Burnside Park at 5:45 this week. If you have any questions, contact Peter Burke via email: burkepnd@xtra.co.nz. Ground closures will be posted by mid-afternoon on the Burnside Cricket Facebook page.

Draw for this weekend:

You can view the full draw for all (Junior and Senior) Burnside teams for this weekend by following this link. Note that on Monday (Labour Day), the Premiers kick-off their one-day campaign.

In the event of bad weather, cancellations will be broadcast on Newstalk ZB 1098, and posted to the CJCA website or  CMC website, and the CMC Facebook page. Keep an eye out for any draw or ground changes on the Burnside Cricket Facebook page.

Notice of BWCUCC AGM – 31st October 2016

The 111th AGM of Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club will be held at the Burnside Cricket Club Pavilion, 336 Avonhead Read, at 7:00pm on Monday 31 October.

All members, life members, honorary members, sponsors, friends of the club are warmly invited to attend. A copy of the 111th Annual Report, as well as a full agenda for the AGM is available here.

Apologies can be passed on via email, or by notifying a member of the BWCUCC committee.

BWCUCC Fundraising Raffle:

The major fundraiser for the season will be the 2016 club raffle. Thi sis being coordinated by Dan Vedder. You will receive more information from your coach or team captain. Tickets are $2, and being sold in books of 20. All senior and junior club members are asked to sell tickets (one book each). Ticketbooks will be distributed this week, and all ticket stubs and proceeds need to be returned by the 11th November 2016.

With a total prize pool valued at over $2,500, there are some great prizes up for grabs; we  want thank our generous sponsors for their contributions:

Al Brown MVP competition update:

With the first Premier round complete, the Al Brown MVP competition table is officially underway.  Rumour has it that Brett Thomson took 5-wickets in an innings on Saturday, but with no CricHQ scorecard entered for the 2A match, it is resigned to being the 5-wicket haul that never was…
