2016/2017 Season – Newsletter #7

As this Friday is Canterbury Anniversary Day & Show Day there is NO Friday night cricket at Burnside Park for the Friday Night Junior’s, but I’m sure there will be plenty of back yard cricket being played.

Honours Boards and Al Brown

This week the Honours Board has eleven new entries so well done to all the players who have made the board, especially the Junior and Senior T20 Players.  If your name is missing on the honours board then please email us and we can get this added.

Clearly these performances have resulted in a bit of re-shuffle of the Al Brown MVP and what we can say is that experienced campaigners are starting to perform and getting their name on the Honours board, like Chris Peters, Regan Wilson and David O’Brien. Chris “El Capitano” Peters enjoyed a 6 wicket haul for the “Cannon’s” fixture vs Sumner – and lands him at #3. The top spots are being fought out by Premier Mens all rounder JJ Naude and Premier Mens captain Cam Hawkins.

Match Results and Draw

Wins for BWU7, BWU3, BWU2 on Saturday mornings and I have recieved a match report from Pete Smith from BWU 2:

Halswell 104/9  , BWU2 105/3..

“BWU2 won the toss and decided to field against Halwell. Halswell were quickly in trouble losing a wicket in the first over and regular wickets throughout the innings. At 7-72 after 15 overs  the innings was in trouble but some steady late order batting saw the total through to 104 all out in the 24th over. Nick Smith finished with great figure of 3 for 7 off 3, taking a wicket in each of his overs. Nick was well supported with some other tidy figures from McKenzie Salinger 1 for 2 from 2 overs and Cameron Sidaway 1 for 3 from 2.
Burnside lost 2 early wickets but a great partnership from Noah Kember (20 retired)and Josh Kenny (29 retired)  got the team to 62-2. Dylan Ziswiler Hayton saw the team home with 18 retired.  Burnside reached the total in the 27th over for the loss of just 3 wickets.”
Premier Men won their Saturday Fixture against Lancaster Park CC, however couldn’t back this up against St.Albans on Sunday as we lost wickets regularly. The Premiers face Riccarton at Riccarton Domain on Saturday.
A win for the 2a’s against St. Alban’s, Whangaparoa Cannon’s win against Sumner, Boomers had a win over Halswell, The DDT won the local derby against the Ghetto Hustlers, our new team the TMF had a win against the NBCC Wave Riders. Better luck this week for the rest of the sides. The results from last week are available here: Results 5th and 6th of November
