Seniors playing for the two-day championship
The final round of the Christchurch Metro premier two-day competition begins on Saturday, and BWU are in the hunt for the silverware.
Our men are currently placed second, and kept our title chances alive on the weekend by toppling leaders Old Boys Collegians by six wickets before the rain arrived on Saturday afternoon. Should OBC (who hold a 12 point lead) stumble against St Albans in the final round, we will be ready to pounce.
Led by a five-wicket bag in the second innings from Scott Inglis, OBC were rolled for just 100 inside 33.2 overs. OBC lost their last eight wickets for 53 runs as the reliable pace attack of Inglis and Matt Farrant rolled through their line-up. Inglis recorded the outstanding match figures of 9-70.
Needing 107 to win, BWCU beat the impending wet weather with Cam Hawkins, who hit an unbeaten 50 from 46 balls, guiding them home.
Canterbury quick Ed Nuttall made his first appearance from a shoulder injury suffered in early January, taking 2-41 from nine overs for OBC.
