ANZAC day 2017 service

The Press – 13th October 1936 – M.Johnstone and Jack Burton  will join the RNZAF. The “Umpires Pavilion” as it now is in the background behind the seating.

ANZAC day gives us an opportunity to pause and to honour and remember those men and women who have served their country. Our club, established in 1905 has had many members who have gone off to battle and some who made the ultimate sacrifice.

At this year’s ANZAC dawn service in Cranmer Square two of our members, Scott Inglis and Jeff Roy, will present the wreath on behalf of our club. You are most welcome to join them at the service. It is recommended that you arrive prior to 6am as it’s a busy service.

Jeff and Scott will be on the Chester Street West area of Cranmer Square and they will go up at the end of the service with other groups. Information on this years service can be found here: ANZAC service 2017.

We have managed to provide some further information around some of the Members who have served, and thanks to Jane Teal the Historian at Christ’s College Christchurch for her assistance to confirming those old boys who also played for the West Christchurch Club. The following link has the revised BWCUCC Roll of Honour with names and additional reading material.

Last year there was a request from several members to have the Roll of Honour placed in the club and there will be sufficient detail in the research to allow us to do this.
