Jack Kerr Pride Membership

The Jack Kerr Pride is special honorary membership to the BWCU Cricket Club, especially for current or former players and supporters who want to and are in a position to give a little more back to the club.

Jack Kerr Pride membership is also an option available for playing members who are in a position to and wanting to make a modest but meaningful financial contribution to the club.

“Jack Kerr Pride” is named after legendary BWCU and New Zealand cricketer John Lambert Kerr, NZOM (1907-2010). Jack served our club for over 77 years as a player, committee member, club captain, selector, President, and Patron. His devotion to cricket, to our club, and to ‘giving back’ to the game that gave him so much epitomises what it is to be a proud member of the BWCU family.

Walter Hadlee and BWCU’s Jack Kerr (R) stride out to bat for New Zealand, circa 1937.

Why should you join the Jack Kerr Pride?

In today’s environment, funding is becoming increasingly difficult. This has significant effect on sporting clubs and can leave them without any additional financial resources to develop sporting facilities. In the last 3-4 years, our club has experienced a drop of revenue from charity funding sources close to $20,000 compared to our annual budget. Reduced funding has a direct impact on the quality and quantity of coaching, facilities, and equipment that we are able to provide to our members from junior through the senior club. Without these resources our cricketers do not have the same opportunities to develop their cricketing skills and progress through representative levels and become the best they can be

Providing the best facilities and coaching is a key deliverable in our goal of being the best cricket club in New Zealand.  Developing a passion for cricket at a young age will help establish the next generation of enthusiasts, players, coaches and perhaps even a future Black Cap. Your support will ensure a future for BWCU cricket club and the fostering of a love of the game for cricketers of all ages and abilities.

How will your contribution be used?

Jack Kerr Pride funds will be mostly put towards the ongoing operating costs of the club.  It is also important to support targeted development initiatives where possible with the support of our honorary members. The continued growth of Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club and the provision of modernising and remediating our facilities is a continued priority for the executive committee.
