Senior cricket general information

This is where you are able to find basic information for Men’s Senior Cricket. This includes competitive morning grades, social & semi-competitive afternoon grades, and social T20 grades.

For full playing conditions for men’s senior cricket in Christchurch, visit the Christchurch Metropolitan Cricket Association webpage and download the metro cricket handbook for the current season.

Registration for men’s grades will open each year on the 1st of August at this link. Membership fees are decided by the committee before the AGM and publicised when registration opens.

Elite & competitive morning grades

The Premiership, Championship, and Division One are the top grades of Christchurch Metro Cricket’s competitions. BWCU is proud to be one of the very few clubs to have a team in each the top three grades.

The Premiership Grade plays a mixture of T20, One Day and Two Day Cricket. Over the season the team will play:

  • 7 Two Day Games
  • 7 One Day Games + Semi Final and a Final
  • 7 T20 Games + Semi Final and a Final

The Championship Grade is our Men’s 2nd XI and trains with our premiership team. Championship grades play a mixture of T20, One Day and Two Day Cricket. Over the season you will play:

  • 7 Two Day Games
  • 7 One Day Games + Semi Final and a Final
  • 7 T20 Games + Semi Final and a Final

Division One is our Men’s 3rd XI, and the ideal starting point for competitive players leaving the youth system, out of town competitive cricketers studying at University of Canterbury and other local tertiary centers. Division One grade plays a mixture of T20, One Day, and Two Day cricket. Over the season the team will play:

  • 5 Two Day Games
  • 5 One Day Games + Semi Final and a Final
  • 10 T20 Games + Semi Final and a Final

The dates for the 2018/19 Premiership, Championship, and Division 1 seasons are as follows:

  • Season start: 6th October 2018
  • Christmas break: 16th December – 11th January 2019
  • Season end: 30th March 2019

Afternoon grades

End: 30 March

Afternoon Grade Cricket is for the semi-competitive to social cricketer. In this grade you will play 40-over One Day cricket on Saturdays and starting at 1pm. Each grade has a round-robin competition format determined by the number of teams entered in the grade.

Our afternoon grade teams run as closed squads with club affiliation. Teams pay a team subscription and receive access to match balls, gear, training facilities, and use of the club facilities and grounds.

If you are interested in registering as a closed afternoon grade team please contact the club by emailing cricket@burnsidecricket.org.nz. The club currently has teams in the following afternoon grade teams:

  • Division Three
  • Division Four
  • Division Five
  • President’s Grade (Over 35’s)

The dates for the 2018/19 afternoon grades cricket season are as follows:

  • Season start: 6th October 2018
  • Christmas break: 16th December – 11th January 2019
  • Season end: 30th March 2019

T20 Cavaliers Grades

These grades are aimed at the time poor semi-competitive and social cricketers. All matches are T20 format, starting at 2pm. Over the season teams will play 20 or more matches. The club currently has three T20 teams in the T20 competition. If you are interested in registering as a closed Cavalier Grade team please contact the club by emailing cricket@burnsidecricket.org.nz.

The dates for the 2018/19 T20 Cavaliers grade cricket season are as follows:

  • Season start: 6th October 2018
  • Christmas break: 16th December – 11th January 2019
  • Season end: 30th March 2019
