2023/24 Junior Prizegiving

The last term of the season came to a prompt end and with Easter fast approaching and we were able to host the Year 4 – Year 7 (October 2023) prizegiving at the clubrooms. This was broken in two sessions due the number of teams involved and we were grateful to have attend Chairman Peter Hay, Matt Hay Premier Men’s Captain, Nick Gibb, and Will Kennedy.

We would like to acknowledge the support or our partners Action Indoor Sports Hornby, Kendal Vehicle Services, Rentworks and Cricket Express for their support of Junior Cricket.

The club would like to acknowledge support of all the parents involved in junior sport, especially those who volunteer as coach, manager, scorer and organiser. This year was no exception as two of our teams had some super mums who had not been previously involved in cricket offer to help organise the teams. We would like to acknowledge this seasons club Junior Merit award winner which was Dwayne McCormack. Dwyane and Nicola have been coaching, managing, scoring and supporting cricket in our club for over 5 years and have 4 more years at least!

This season we had a total of 11 CJCA sides with 3 year 8 teams who finished junior cricket in December, leaving 7 sides to continue and they were joined by a Year 4 team from Friday night junior cricket that Maria Surrey helped put together. Congratulations to all our players who really improved throughout the season.

Matt Hay spoke his experience from Friday Night junior cricket, then CJCA Saturday cricket where he caught the cricket bug and off to Boy’s High for his High School to follow his cricketing dream. Matt emphasised how important it was to enjoy playing with your team mates and how even though might have not had the best performance you can always have a great day with your mates.

Our first session had our Year 4 and 2 x Year 5 Teams and included a wonderful address by Martin Conway, which was a hard act to follow.
