  • Coach and Club Leader Development Workshop
    Monday, 8 March 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
    Puaka James Hight 210

    Hi All,

Those of you that I have not met, I have just started at UC Rec & Sport as a Sport Club Development Coordinator. I will be working with Sport Canterbury to provide recommendations as to how we can best support and service clubs, to enhance performance and sustainability both on and off the field. The first workshop in the partnership with Sport Canterbury will be targeted at coaches and club leaders, and will be run by the coaching lead at Sport Canterbury; Mike De Bono.

The workshop will be held on Monday the 8th of March at 6pm.
Venue: Puaka James Hight 210 (Will move the venue if the number attending exceed the maximum room allocation)

    The workshop will cover:

    - Wellbeing of the athlete
    - Balance and expectations
    - Sport Canterbury and Sport New Zealand Coaching for Character framework.

Coaching for character was designed by Dr Ralph L. Pim to upskill coaches with simple and adaptable tools and concepts that will enable them to embed character education as a component of their coaching practice. A coach has an important role, not only in the development of successful athletes and teams but in providing foundational holistic development of young people. Many coaches who have participated in the coaching for character programme have not only learnt more about themselves and their athletes; but have advanced their athletes culture, teamwork and overall victories.

"Sport is the perfect venue to teach lessons and promote behaviours that deliver success, greatness and significance in sport and life."
    — Ralph L. Pim, Ed.D.
Dr. Pim has spent a life-time learning and understanding how to effectively target character development through sport. As the Character Development Expert Advisor for Canterbury; Mike De Bono works closely with different Canterbury coaches alongside, Sport New Zealand’s coach development framework.

This will be a great opportunity not only for UC Sport Club coaches, but also leadership and committee members in your club.

Please RSVP to me by Thursday 4th of March if you wish to attend. Keep your eye out for an email from Mike De Bono prior to the workshop.

    Regards,

    Jessica Rodrigues
