Adult Cricket at Burnside
Burnside Cricket is one of eight premier cricket clubs in the Christchurch, New Zealand’s second largest city. The club’s headquarters are at Burnside Oval, in the north-west of Christchurch. The Club’s top team competes in the Premier grade, which is the highest metropolitan competition. Each season, there are two day, one day and Twenty/20 titles to be won.
Christchurch Metro Cricket grades have something for everyone, whether you are a social or serious cricketer, or whether you want to play all day or just spend three hours in a T20 match.
Morning Grade Teams
Burnside is one of the only clubs in the Christchurch Metro Cricket Association affiliation to have a team in all three of the top men’s adults grades:
- CMCA Premiership
- CMCA Championship
- CMCA 1st Division
This structure allows the club to provide competitive cricket opportunities for all skill levels, as well as natural development pathways for school leavers who join the club after completing High School and who are looking to progress through the ranks from 1st Division or Championship grades, into Premiership cricket and beyond. Few other clubs in New Zealand are able to offer this pathway.
Afternoon Grade Teams
In addition to the club’s three morning grade teams, we have got a range of afternoon grade teams that play 40 Over one-day games or in the Cavaliers T20 competition. If you want to get involved in one of these teams them please contact the club by email or talk to the club captain Alex McDuff.
You can also contact the club via our Facebook page.
Matches can be either at home or at opposition grounds, but most summer Saturdays there will be good cricket to watch at Burnside Oval, starting no later than 11 a.m.
Grass net practices three nights a week from 5.30pm:
- Tuesdays. All Morning grade teams
- Wednesdays. Open training – Division 1 and all afternoon grade teams
- Thursdays. All Morning grade teams
In addition, our artificial practice pitches are available for players and teams who would like to organise other practices.
