2017/18 Season Newsletter #12

Welcome to our weekly newsletter where you can find all the latest club news including match reports, draws, and the weekly Al Brown MVP update…  Last week’s wet weather resulted in all Saturday cricket being cancelled, but the Premiers had a qualifier on Sunday with the winner advancing to the Canterbury regional one day final.  Details below…

Prems defeat Mid-Canterbury winners

Burnside West Played Allenton of Mid Canterbury in the semi-final of the Canterbury One Day Championships on Sunday on Burnside 4. Of all the Burnside pitches, number 4 fared the best after heavy week of rain, and so the match was played there under a sunny Sunday sky. Allenton were all out for 118, Matt Farrant took 4 wickets. BWCUCC chased the score down in only 20 overs for a seven wicket win. Well done lads!

BWCUCC celebrate the win.

We now play Celtic from Timaru this Sunday in the regional final after they beat Leeston Southbridge in the other knockout game last week. The winner of that match moves on to the national club championships in Auckland at the end of the summer.

  • Match: BWCU Premiers vs Celtic Timaru – Canterbury Regional Final
  • Date: Sunday 21 January 2018
  • Time: 10:30 a.m.
  • Venue: Burnside Park 1

Mens grades starting back this weekend (Take 2)

Check out the draw on CricHQ – all mens grades morning and afternoon are back into it this weekend. All draws for senior and junior teams are available online in the Burnside West Christchurch upcoming fixtures page on CricHQ.

A further reminder on overdue subs

Our club is lucky to have some of the finest grounds, facilities and coaching in the Canterbury region. Our park, the immaculate outlook from the Pavilion and the quality pitches we get to play on is something that all club members collectively benefit from. But these facilities do not come for free. As a club we are dependent on players and teams doing their part by paying your annual subscriptions. Subs for the 2017/2018 season are now well overdue.

If you have not yet paid your membership for this season, or made suitable arrangements with the club, you are now in breach of your membership. For those players in morning grades failure to pay your sub or make arrangements will now affect your eligibility for selection. For afternoon grade teams, failure to pay your team sub in full or to make other arrangements immediately could affect your team’s ongoing registration status until resolved, including de-registration of your team from the competition. If you have questions, talk to a member of the BWCUCC committee.

Junior cricket

Junior cricket is still a couple of weeks away – resumption dates. Note a change in the resumption date for Friday Night cricket to what had previously been communicated.

  • Junior Friday Night cricket first day back on Friday 9th February, 2018
  • Junior Saturday Morning grades first day back on Saturday 3rd February, 2018

Playing on the home grounds this weekend…

Keep an eye out  on Saturday for…

  • BWU Premiers hosting Marist Harewood on Burnside Park 1 (T20, Game 1 of 2 @ 11:30am)
  • BWU 2A hosting Lancaster Park 2A on Burnside Park 4 (T20 @ 11:30am)

The Black Caps are coming to town

If you are wondering what happens on Saturday the 10th of March when the Black Caps vs England ODI match is on at Hagley Oval… There is NO junior cricket that weekend. All Adult Cricket (morning AND afternoon grade) is to be played on Sunday the 11th of March. That gives you the chance to get down to the ground and support the men in black. Tickets to the Black Caps v England 5th ODI are available from Ticketek.

Avonhead Tavern Player of the Day Awards

Reminder – all teams that return to the pavilion (both Junior and Senior teams) are eligible to nominate a player of the day award.

Our club sponsors at One Good Horse Restaurant and The Avonhead Tavern have kindly provided the club with these Player of the Days awards. It is fantastic to have great supporters of club cricket and being local we hope you take up the opportunity to spend some time at the club house as well as making use of the prizes.

Burnside Merchandise

We are delighted to advise that official Burnside Merchandise is now available to purchase online direct from our sponsor Cricket Express. The team at Cricket Express have updated their website, and you can now order Burnside training gear and clothing online and just in time for Christmas! More items will be added after Christmas, but for now, check out the selection and show your club pride with some awesome BWCUCC kit!

You get points for runs, wickets, maidens, catches, stumpings, run outs etc. The more detail you capture in your scorecards, the more points you stand to gain – especially remember to record your catches, and try to convince your opponents to fully utilize CricHQ too…
