New Zealand cricket have introduced some changes to the way coaches and managers are registered and vetted. NZC have also introduced a new registration system to manage the qualifications of coaches. For more information on the new requirements, head to our coaching information page.
How to register
All existing and new coaches must register in the new system. For more information, and to register head to the NZC Coaches Corner site.
Background checks
After you have registered, you need to complete an online vetting form so that a background check can be performed.
Foundation course
Coaches of Year 1 members through to ‘Hardball’ cricketers are requested to complete the Foundation training course.
The NZC Foundation training is the perfect introduction to coaching cricket at junior level. Even if you are not coaching a team, NZC recommends all parents do at least the online Foundation coaching course.
The foundation course has two components – an online session, and a practical session. Follow the link below to complete the online session in your own time. This session is free.
The Foundation Practical sessions will be held at the Burnside Cricket Pavilion on the following dates (these sessions will be run by BWC by our Junior coaching coordinator, Nigel Marsh).
- Tuesday 23rd October 5.45pm – Foundation Practical (45mins)
- Wednesday 24th October 5.45pm – Foundation Practical (45mins)
- Tuesday 30th October 5.45pm – Foundation Practical (45mins)
If you have already registered as a coach with NZC, you should have received an email from NZC inviting you to attend. You only need to one session, but each course is being run on three different days to help accommodate busy schedules! Choose a date below that works best for your schedule, and respond to the appropriate email invitation to confirm your attendance. There is no cost to you to attend the practical session.
Advanced Foundation (for Hardball cricket)
Once you progress to coaching hardball cricket you are required to complete the ‘Advanced Foundation course’ which also includes an online and practical module.
To access the Advanced Foundation online course, you need to register as a coach on the NZC website, as a Junior Coach for hardball cricket. Once completed, you will receive information on how to access this coaching material.
The Advanced Foundation Practical sessions will be held at the Burnside Cricket Pavilion on the following dates (these sessions will be run by BWC by our Junior coaching coordinator, Nigel Marsh).
- Tuesday 23rd October 6.30pm – Advanced Foundation Practical (1hr)
- Wednesday 24th October 6.30pm – Advanced Foundation Practical (1hr)
- Tuesday 30th October 6.30pm – Advanced Foundation Practical (1hr)
If you have already registered as a coach with NZC, you should have received an email from NZC inviting you to attend. What if you didn’t receive an email?
If you have successfully registered as a BWCUCC Junior coach with NZC, you should have received an invitation to each event. If you did not receive an email, or if you have not yet registered – send the club an email (cricket@burnsidecricket.org.nz) to confirm which course(s) you wish to attend.
What if you can’t attend?
If you can’t attend any of the practical training dates, you will need to wait until further training course dates are announced by the club, or the CMCA/CJCA.
