The club would like to acknowledge the hard work that Will O’Brien has put in as club captain over the last 4 seasons. Will stepped into the role as a young man wanting to give back to the club and it’s a position which can be a very daunting prospect especially corralling together teams late on a Friday or stepping up for speeches when you would rather be forgetting your own performance on a Saturday. Not only has Will provided us with plenty of notice but he has also introduced Adam Winter to the role, who attended his first committee meeting this week.

Adam moved to Christchurch in December 2023 as part of his role at Fonterra, now he is the Area Manager for Rangiora and Leeston, looking after the relationships with about 200 Fonterra farms. Adam joined Burnside as soon as he moved, knowing a couple of current members and hearing great things about the club and culture, which is even better than he was told!

On the field, Adam began playing for the Championship team for the majority of the rest of the 23/24 season, and made a few Premier appearances later on in the season too. Before Canterbury and Burnside, Adam grew up in Hawkes Bay and played school, premier and rep cricket around the region. He then moved to Hamilton for Uni, where he played for Star University in the premier competition. Adam also did part of the 23/24 at Parnell Cricket Club before he moved south. He is excited to get in and help out in the Club Captain space and follow on from Will O’Brien’s legacy!
