The club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bentley Seeto who lost his battle on the 25th of July 2024, most members will know Bentley as father of our premier men’s player Tim Seeto, but he was also a member of the ‘Cricket Dads’ who are a group of fathers who had their children come up through junior cricket, all from difference cricket clubs, and were brought together as their sons represented Christchurch as part of the 2018 CJCA South Island Tournament

To say there are some characters in the Cricket Dads would be an understatement, many names will be well known in the wider BWCUCC community and wider cricket circles – Murray Hawes, Nathan Crowe, Andy Milne, Matthew Stocks and list goes on Breitmeyer, Gibb, Fyall, Thyne, Hedgecock, and Hemingway. The Cricket Dads are often seen as the parents who help with coaching, managing, on the committees – organising the BBQ, all with wonderful support from their families.

The Cricket Dads still get together regularly playing indoor cricket, social outdoor games, semi-competitive back yard cricket and odd long weekend away somewhere where they get together and put the world to rights. Golf was always on the calendar even though there were some doubtful handicaps and the Dads were often going from rough to rough on course. Bentley even organised a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle.

There is no doubt that the Cricket Dads will be doing it tough over the coming weeks, but they are a group of guys who take care of each other and have been able to keep connected since that 2018 tournament over 6 years ago, all through the community game of cricket. We all love that.
