This week the club hosted two fixtures of the Over 70s World Cup, on Tuesday Canada vs Sri India and Thursday Australia vs Rest of the World. The club was due to host 3 matches however round 1 was cancelled with the rain.
Canada Over 70s produced a dominant display at Burnside Park, posting 280/6 before dismissing India Over 70s for 165 — claiming a commanding 115-run victory. Former West Indian star Larry Gomes was playing for Canada and Garfield Charles had an opportunity to meet his old acquaintance.

Australia Over 70s defeated Rest of World Over 70s by 5 wickets. Rest of the World made 103, and Australia reached 106/5 to secure the win. This match had an hour delay due to rain and the players has an early lunch. The Rest of the World had wanted to bat their 45 overs and having nearly completed that objective we disappointed not have scored 30 runs or so more. The Rest of the World bowled very tightly and had Australia with some concerns at 2/11, 3/17 and 5/57 there was plenty of work to do.
The Australian Captain Doug Trigg has played at Burnside 52 years earlier in a tour in 1974 and it was just how he remembered it.
Raewyn Inder was also scoring both matches and providing the livestream
Thanks to the teams and the tournament organisers for offering the hosting opportunity at Burnside and well done to Dave, Graeme, Peter, Mohit and Shane for their efforts on behalf of the club.
The Over70s World Cup final is due to be held on Thursday 5th of March at Hagley Oval.
