With the season approaching, our priority is contacting local schools. We will run a school awareness program for year 1–4 children. They will take part in Kendal Vehicle Services Friday Night Cricket.

Kelly Hodder, named Christchurch Junior Cricket Association’s Girls Convenor, contacted local schools. Will Kennedy helped confirm the runsheet for the delivery days. A few hiccups at the start but the the delivery is well underway.

Club secretary Gareth Gibson worked with designer Josh Mason to prepare our double-sided handouts for printing. All were working to tight deadlines at Print Monday. We are sending out electronic copies for school notices.

Since our experienced club activators are all in the UK for the winter we had Jacob and Hannah step up. Jacob Lough is studying sport management at UC and Hannah Ryan, NWWC Premier Womens keeper / batter, is at Lincoln University.

Jacob is very knowledgable about KVS Friday Night Cricket as he started there in Year 1. (In the red shirt with cap in the bottom left photo). Jacob started as an activator in our KVS Friday Night Cricket in 2020 – so it’s great that is still involved and has starting coaching our Saturday CJCA Players

After three weeks of Year 7 and 8 indoor training sessions at the Sydenham Indoor Training centre lead by Garfield Charles and helped by Jacob Lough and parents Dwayne McCormick, Mike Wheeler, Blair Watson with some additional helpers.

This has enabled us to name our year 7 and 8 Premier sides which was a very difficult task with all the talented players on display. Year 7 Premier manager Martin Conway wants to help to create some traditions for all our junior players as they come through – so watch this space.

Team registration updates:

• Year 8 – we will be full now if eveyone who has indicated they are playing registers. We will have a waitlist
• Years 5 – 7 we are taking registrations.
• We now will have two sides from Our Lady of Victories school due to some excellent work by Neo Fernando. They will have a Year 6 and a Year 7 OLV teams under Burnside. Some of Burnside team players from last season will move to these teams.
• Year 4 – We have a full team players coming up from Friday Night and will have a waitlist to see if we get can close to a second team.

I am looking forward to seeing further registrations come over the next few weeks leading up to term 4! CJCA team registrations are due to close at the start of October.
