Junior Year 8 Leavers 2021

In their last year at intermediate school our Year 8 players finish their club cricket in December before they head off to their respective high schools, some of the players have been with the club for 7 years starting out at our KVS Friday Night junior cricket at Burnside Park until transitioning into Saturday morning cricket with Christchurch Junior Cricket Association.

Thanks to Placemakers Hornby for loaning the BBQ trailer to cook a sausage sizzle for the players after their last match and then we present the awards, celebrate the teams and thank the coaches and parents who have made a commitment to cricket. The club presents each player with a certificate and “Leavers” T-Shirt where players often sign each other names on the shirt.

Club Chairman Peter Hay was in attendance and was able to advice to some of those players on the move to Christchurch Boy’s High School and Jon Robertson spoke of the importance of enjoying the game and getting a lot of fun out of it, not to focus on individual performances or results.

In a few weeks these players who once on the same team will facing off against each other in Youth Cricket. We wish them every success and look forward to welcoming them back to the club in a few short years.

Special thanks to both Jon Robertson and Graeme Campbell for coaching BWU 1 and BWU 2 our two year 8 sides and the following players were awarded medals

  • BWU 1 – MVP – Lachlan Bendall
  • BWU 1 – Most Improved – Felipe Felitti Duter
  • BWU 1 – Team Player – Olly Upjohn
  • BWU 2 – MVP – Corban Blackwell
  • BWU 2 Most Improved – Callum Escott
  • BWU 2 – Team Player – Josh Rusbatch

Some of the boys who will heading off to Burnside High School, Papanui High School or Middleton Grange will be able to continue their cricket association with the club with North West Youth Cricket and all the registration information is here http://nwyc.co.nz/registrations-are-now-open-for-2022/
