Senior Prizegiving 2026

With another season concluded came another Senior Men’s Prizegiving for Burnside West. The Dowling-Hastings Lounge was again full to celebrate the successes of the season across all of our teams, as well as the individual performances which defined many trophy runs.

A wonderful meal from Country Feasts got the punters filled up to start the evening as we got into the awards. Another very successful season for the club with 7 trophies secured across the teams. Notably the Championship team winning both the One Day and Two-Day competitions, the Sticky Wickets winning their grade in their second season for the club, and the Premiership team once again in the silverware winning the One Day competition comprehensively on a special finals day at Burnside Park.

We had a range of captain’s speeches, awards and stories told, Alex McDuff’s address being the highlight of these. Then onto the club awards. The performance of the season and highest score went to Scott Jannet for his fabulous 197 for the Premiers against Sydenham, whilst main batting honours went to Nick Gibb for an 888 run season at a 49 average. On the bowling side, Alex Tait’s 60 wicket season again the standout. In the Club MVP stakes, Matt Hay was pushed closer than other years by Adrian McFedries from Masters Robbies who had an outstanding season, but wasn’t enough to take the trophy from Matt’s Long held grasp.

The service awards went to two very well deserving winners. Senior Merit to Jackson Latham for his mentorship of the Burnside pace bowling ranks, and Overall Club Man to Will “Boots” Kennedy, for his awesome raffle, junior cricket management, Championship team performances and overall great contribution to the club.

A great night had by all as this club continues to go from strength to strength, and keeps showing why it’s the preeminent club in Christchurch City. Special thanks to all those who helped in the background to make the night another successful one.
