2026 Golf Day

This year’s golf day was brilliantly organised by Alex McDuff from CIC Financial. He also sponsored the golf course for the day.

A massive thank you to all the organisations and people who sponsored the day and provided prizes – it makes a massive impact for the cricket club.

Keen golfers on would have been weary the day before the tournament with Thursday being cold (10 degrees) grey, rain and drizzle. Everybody, especially the organisers were very happy to see the sun on Friday in what was a warm spring day with many breaking out the sunscreen from the golf bag for the first time of the summer.

As the golf parties were welcomed at the Bottle Lake Golf Club they were welcomed with a BBQ from Farm Source arranged by Adam Winter who together with the able of assistance of club volunteers Rohan Thomson, Nick Gibb, Peter Hay and Nick Smith.

Alex welcomed the groups at check in and presented tote bags supplied by Lane Neave and refreshments courtesy of DB. After some generous raffle ticket purchases the groups headed off for a shotgun start at 11.30am

There were three other competitions on offer during the day, the longest drive won by Alex McDuff and the putting competition over 5 holes which had an entry of fee of $10.00 which everyone participated in. Nick Smith, Peter Hay and Shane Young were helping direct people here while also providing no useful advice.

There were a few players with 9 putts, two from the NZ Breakers uniform four in just the second round, but the outright winner was Ben Loffhagan from the ANZ team who finished with 8.

Closest to the pin was won by Chris Neilson and Sam Ford whose four went on to win the tournament.

Refreshments were supplied during the day by Rohan and Nick who found their calling in hospitality in the golf cart.

After a wonderful day of the golf the fours returned to the clubhouse where we entrusted the complex scorecard calculations to UC engineering student Nick Smith who was very efficient on the numbers.

The players were provided with supper and refreshments and it was an opportunity to sell some more raffle ticket and to take bids on the three auction items donated to the cause. Will O’Rourke’s jumper from the tour of England, Mitch Hay’s Black Caps signed ODI shirt from the West Indies Tour, and a Ryan Fox signed Ricoh cap donated by Ricoh.

These were all meet reserve on the day and thanks to generous club member the Jersey and Shirt have been donated back to the club.
