This evening, the 118th Annual General Meeting of the Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club was held at the Burnside Cricket Pavilion. On behalf of the committee, thank you to all the members who took time to be present and to have your say on the direction we are taking this great club.
The club would to thank all the Year 7’s who attended training and are returning to play for the club in the coming season. It was very hard to name this Year 7 Premier side and they have named the following 10 players. If you have any questions please contact Shane Young on 021 771 392.
The club would to thank all our returning cricketers and parents for the last term of their Junior Cricket at Burnside. It was very difficult to choose between so many players who have improved over the last year. We are going to name 9 players in the Year 8 Premier Team and there is one player to add which will be confirmed shortly, and if there are any changes players will be brought up. We are waiting for some final registrations before any other teams are finalised. The coaches will be in touch in due course for practice times.
Burnside Park will play host to a pre-season quad series on Saturday the 30th of September, welcoming Mid & South Canterbury’s rep sides. The day will consist of 2 x T20 matches at 11am & 2:30pm with lunch between the games.
The club will be running some 1 hour indoor sessions for Year 7 and Year 8 boys which we will be using that to make sure the boys are in the best suited grade, but is a good warm up for the start of the season. All Welcome
The 2022/23 CMCA 2-Day Championship was won by the BWCUCC Premiers for the first time since 1991/92. It was an emphatic campaign with 4 wins, 1 loss and 2 rain impacted draws. The team used 22 players in the campaign. With Tom Latham playing his first game from the club since 2014 a highlight, and the debuts of Nick Gibb, Tim Seeto, Richard Sillars, Ben Ward, Henry Christie & Rohan Thompson other notable moments.
Junior Cricket registrations are mostly all in and we are working through organising our Saturday morning grades, the first match gets underway on the Saturday the 22nd of October. We will be accepting registrations throughout the year for our Friday Night Kiwi and Smash Play programs – the first Friday 21st of October
At the clubs 117th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday the 27th September 2022, long serving club member Peter Isle was awarded Life Membership of the cricket club. Peter was not aware he was going to be up for life membership, and it took a bit of planning with his sister Tricia both to keep it a secret as well as to get Peter to come along to the AGM.
Gareth Gibson read out the following which was compiled by Peter Burke and Tricia
You may have seen that our registrations are open for the coming season, the move to the new “PlayHQ” means that if you wish to keep any stats from previous years you will need to fill in your CricHQ ID number and I have attached a list of last year’s numbers.
Because of the school holiday dates and that the junior cricket starts back just after the school holidays it is really helpful if you register as soon as you can.
