SCOTT INGLIS BECOMES MOST CAPPED PREMIER PLAYER
This Saturday, Scott Inglis becomes the most capped Premier player in the 108 year history of our club. Scott will play his 225th match this weekend, overtaking Russell Haglund. There will be a brief ceremony in the clubrooms after the match to celebrate this remarkable achievement, and everyone is warmly invited. Congratulations Scott.

THE UNLUCKIEST MAN IN CHRISTCHURCH
Normally we don’t mind, and even actively encourage, the misfortunes of opposition players. However, on Saturday we felt nothing but sympathy for a Lancaster Park Woolston opponent. Keen to go surfing, he was talked into playing to make up the numbers. In a team soundly beaten, he was run out for a duck and dropped a catch. No doubt he was happy to leave at the end, until he found that a tree had been blown onto and through his car. Not a good day. Hopefully his Lotto numbers come in this Saturday.

HONOURS BOARD PERFORMANCES FROM PREMIERS, 2As, 2Bs, CANNONS, BRAWLERS, PRESIDENTS, JUNIOR PREMIERS AND YEAR 7 PREMIERS
Lots of Junior and Senior Honours Board performances last weekend, with the highlight being captain Callum George’s 115* for the Brawlers. Have a look here to see who made the Board.

Unfortunately our Premiers (167/8) were beaten by LPW (170/4). However, all the other Senior teams had good wins. The 2As, after being about 40/5, fought back via Mike Allcock, Hugo Snape and Brett Thomson to score 211/8 and beat LPW by two wickets. The 2Bs (66/2) had a resounding win over LPW (65). The Brawlers (255/4) cruised past East Shirley (167). The Cannons (73/4) did the same to LPW (72). The Mariners (46/2) also won easily over Sydenham Goats (45). The Presidents Foxes (124/4) had a strong win over the OBC/LPW Buccaneers (122).

JUNIOR PREMIERS WIN BACK DEREK COCKBURN SHIELD
Continuing the winning theme, the Junior Premiers took back the Derek Cockburn Challenge Shield from their key rivals OBC and a report on the match is here. You can also read a report on the Year 7 Premiers’ (124/0) big victory over East Shirley (17/8).

COMING UP THIS WEEKEND – SENIOR CRICKET
Our Premiers play two matches this weekend. Also, morning grades start times are earlier on Saturday, and the afternoon grades are playing T20 matches, to allow players to more easily go to the Wizards’ T20 match at Hagley Oval.

Premiers v Canterbury Under 20, Burnside Oval 1, Sunday 10.30am

A feature is the Junior Premiers playing on Burnside Oval, in line with the Junior Club day this Saturday.

DID YOU KNOW?
A few weeks ago we foreshadowed leggie Ish Sodhi’s test debut. This week we have commiserated with an unlucky visitor to Burnside Oval. Let’s combine the two themes and ask did you know about the unlucky story of Black Caps legspinner Greg Loveridge?. Read the really interesting tale here about how, on his test debut, he broke his finger before he could bowl a ball, why he never played for his country again, and what happened next.

Have a great cricketing weekend.

HONOURS BOARD PERFORMANCES FROM DOMINIC CORNISH, CULLEN MOODY, BLAKE STOCKS, JONTY HUNTER, GEORGE WORKER, BRETT THOMSON AND CHRIS KINRAID
Players from the Premiers, 2Bs, Cannons, Junior Premiers, Year 7 Premiers and BWU4 teams made the honours board on Saturday. Check out what they did here.

PRESIDENTS FOXES IN THE BAR BY 2.30PM
The phone went in the Pavilion at 2.03pm on Saturday. It was Chris Kennedy. “Is the bar open?”, he asked, “we’ve bowled Sydenham Hospital out for 27 in an hour”. A few balls later, the Foxes were up watching the Canterbury ITM Cup team deal to Auckland in a similar fashion. Read Dave Robertson’s account of how it happened here, including some reminiscing about the NZ batsman with a 0.5 average.

A few photos of Senior Cricket at Burnside are on the Club’s Facebook page.

Elsewhere, it was not the happiest of weekends for the morning grades, with the Premiers losing to Canterbury Country, and the 2As and 2Bs going down to Riccarton. It was a different story in the afternoon grades, with the maximum possible victories. As well as the Foxes, the 3B Cannons (107/7) won the local derby against the 3B Brawlers (106/9), and the 3B Mariners (37/5) overcame Heathcote (35/8).

JUNIOR CRICKET UNDERWAY THIS WEEKEND

Junior Cricket kicks off this weekend, with Friday night players starting at 6pm. The first ball of the Saturday morning junior cricket season will be bowled at 9am.

JUNIOR CRICKETERS – FINDING THE RIGHT GROUND!

Not sure where your ground or pitch is?

If you are playing at Burnside Oval, you can download a pitch map on this page

If you are at an away venue, maps to, and maps of, the grounds are in the first lin on this page.

BWU THE ONLY PREMIER TEAM TO WIN ON SATURDAY

Mid-week rain prevented all but top grade cricket last weekend. Even then, only one result was squeezed in between downpours on Saturday. Luckily, it involved our Premiers and they were on the right side of the ledger at the end. Dismissing Riccarton for 110 (Matt Farrant and Sam Noster three wickets each), BWU was 60/4 when rain stopped play. This was enough to give them a win by six runs on calculated run rate, and jump them to an early, albeit slight, leaderboard lead after two rounds of the Premier one day competition.

COMING UP THIS WEEKEND – SENIOR CRICKET

The Senior draw this weekend is:

Premiers v Canterbury Country, Mainpower Oval 1, 10.30am
2As v Riccarton, Burnside Oval 1, 10:30am

Year 7 Premier: BWU3 v Sumner 1 Straits, Burnside Oval 6, 9:00am
Year 6 Section 2: BWU4 v Lancaster Park Woolston 7, Burnside Oval 8, 9:00am
Year 5 Section 1: BWU5 v East-Shirley 9, Burnside Park 5a, 9:00am
Year 5 Super 8 Section 2: BWU6 v East-Shirley 12, Marshlands School, 1a, 9:00am
Year 5 Super 8 Section 2: BWU7 v Merivale-Papanui 6, Ilam School 1a, 9:00am

DID YOU KNOW? – SACHIN TENDULKAR AND NZ

Sachin Tendulkar is in the news this week because he is retiring soon after his 200th test match. Unbelievably, he first played a test against New Zealand in February 1990. It was his fifth test and it was here is Christchurch. Have a look here at the team of long-retired Kiwis he opposed. What a strong New Zealand team too, and it had a comfortable victory, with Tendulkar scoring a duck in the first innings.

Have a great cricketing weekend.
